Overview
Have you ever wondered why two seemingly similar employees perform so differently, or why some people you hire take quickly to a job while others take months to "get their feet wet"? Profile studies can provide insight into these and other important questions. This is done by identifying the attributes, characteristics and abilities that are most often associ-ated with a good person/job match. And since our profile studies are based on objective, statistical analyses, they can provide a sound basis for improving current selection procedures.
How it Works
Profile studies are designed to identify the attributes, characteristics and abilities of successful job incumbents. The first phase of the study consists of adminis-tering job-related, psychological assess-ments to a sample of job incumbents in the targeted position. Also collected are performance measures for each incumbent, usually consisting of super-visor ratings and/or objective indices of performance (e.g., sales). Once the psychological assessment and perform-ance data are collected, statistical relationships are studied and evaluated for a variety of purposes.
First, we can provide you with a profile of the average incumbent of the targeted position in your organization. Provided you are happy with your work force, this information could be used to select future employees. In addition, such information may be utilized to target areas that could be improved through training and development.
Second, we can divide incumbents into high- and low-performing categories and study the differences in their attributes. This would give you a clear indication of the types of individuals who are more and less likely to succeed on the job. This analysis also sheds light on what skills need to be further developed in low-performing individuals.
Finally, we can utilize the full data set to determine which attributes are most predictive of successful job performance, overall.
